Could Eating Vegan Help During Recovery?

When recovering from substance use disorder, many people find solace in a healthy diet and a healthy lifestyle. For example, everyone who attends Chapters Capistrano goes to a beautiful gym. There are also different eating options available for people in recovery at our rehab facilities. Eating vegan is just one of the many choices someone can make during recovery to jumpstart a healthy lifestyle. But what does eating vegan consist of? Shouldn’t there be something to worry about?

Eating vegan isn’t as hard as many people think. It’s true that a vegan diet only consists of eating only plant-derived foods. This means no meat or dairy products. This includes things like milk, eggs, and even cheese. There is a lot of people who think this might not be healthy. But eating vegan might be one of the healthiest decisions someone could make.

One of the best benefits of going vegan is that you’re required to focus on what you consume. This leads to making easier and more optimal choices such as in-season fruits and vegetables. Eating vegan doesn’t have to inherently be healthier than eating an omnivorous diet, but eating vegan is attributed with a more healthy life. A vegan diet is attributed to having more successful weight loss, according to a USC study. Time also reported on some of the benefits and potential problems of a vegan diet.

During rehab, the body is going through a difficult time with the complete and immediate removal of drugs and/or alcohol. It’s important to eat healthy and find something that is possible to follow after rehab. A vegan diet has a set plan. Don’t eat animal products. Where you go from there is entirely up to you. There’s plenty of recipes online to make vegan meals and desserts. Many of which will taste similar to their non-vegan brethren. It’s not as difficult as many people make it out to be and there can be many healthy and moral benefits to a vegan diet.
