Am I Addicted to Marijuana

by De'Meko, June 12, 2013

The premier treatment center at Chapters Capistrano located in Southern California handles Marijuana addiction recovery. With highly personalized treatment plans, our addiction experts know the importance of making a program about the individual client, since addiction affects each person differently. We are here to help addicts return to sober living!

General Information

Referring to the processed Cannabis plant, Marijuana is used as a psychoactive drug, as well as for some medicinal uses. Marijuana exhibits a mix of the properties of stimulants, depressants, and hallucinogens; the psychedelic or hallucinogenic effects are the most prominent. THC is usually thought to be the main psychoactive ingredient of Marijuana. However, other studies suggest other chemicals in Marijuana may play a significant role. Marijuana is legal for certain medicinal uses. On the other hand, despite the drug’s illegality, the number of recreational users and extensive network have made the drug the most popular illegal recreational substance in the United States.

Effects of Marijuana Abuse

The psychoactive and physiological effects of Marijuana change a user’s perception. The most common short-term neurological and physical effects include increased heart rate, impairment of short-term memory, and lowered blood pressure. Although long-term effects are still being debated, many believe there are negative effects on memory impairment, mental disorders, intellectual growth, and lung health. At times, it has been documented that Marijuana has caused individuals to exhibit anti-social behavior.

Marijuana Withdrawal Doesn’t Have Be Uncomfortable

The drug and alcohol rehab team at Chapters is well aware that many people have anxiety about how uncomfortable Marijuana withdrawal can be. This keeps people out of rehab and continued using. Chapters is committed to making withdrawal as safe, effective and comfortable as possible. Consequently, our drug-specific detox protocol is followed. Under doctor supervision, clients take prescription medication to help with withdrawal symptoms and decrease the risk of seizure. The prescription medication is given  until the body is physically stabilized.

There are many challenges presented by Marijuana addiction. It is Chapters Capistrano’s mission to create a safe, compassionate environment in which addicts can detox, heal and return to sober living.
